When someone is in trouble, not all would lend a helping hand without hesitance. But when Kate McClure ran out of gas while driving on I-95 outside Philadelphia, she didn’t expect that a homeless man would be the one who will go the extra mile just to help her.
According to reports, McClure, 27, was admittedly scared when she was approached by Johnny, who actually regularly sits on the side of the road not far from where McClure got stranded. But all of McClure’s fears subsided when he told her to stay inside her vehicle, lock the doors and wait for him. Not long after, Johnny returned with a gas can and filled up her car.
What is even more surprising is how Johnny never asked McClure any money. In fact, he spent his last $20 just to get the gas. And since McClure didn’t bring any cash with her, she promised to return the favor. Since that day, McClure visited Johnny and brought him some stuff like warm clothing, food, water and even gift cards. Aside from that, she also created a GoFundMe page which will be used for “first and last month’s rent at an apartment, a reliable vehicle, and 4-6 months worth of expenses.”
So far, the fundraiser has already come up more than the target goal of $10K. It has already reached $110,270. McClure also wrote on the page, “He is very interested in finding a job, and I believe that with a place to be able to clean up every night and get a good night’s rest, his life can get back to being normal. Truly believe that all Johnny needs is one little break. Hopefully with your help I can be the one to give it to him.”
McClure’s story proves that sometimes, those who have very little to nothing are actually the ones who are willing to help even at their own cost.
