Peace–we all want that. But sometimes, it’ hard to get it especially if there are still underlying issues going around. This is Nikka Garcia’s testimony through her blog. To those who don’t know her, she is the wife of Filipino actor Patrick Garcia. Because of her husband’s popularity, their life is an open book. And everyone in the country basically knows that Patrick has a son from his ex-girlfriend, Jennylyn Mercado, who is also an actress.
Even before their son was born, Pat and Jen broke up. A few years later, Pat met Nikka and they eventually got together. But Nikka was very much aware about Pat’s son with Jen and it made her insecure.
“When Pat and I were just dating; I was young and still a little immature. I was confident in mostly everything except his past. Knowing that he has a son whom he adores with someone he used to love, not to mention, a very good-looking person… brought about the feeling of INSECURITY in me,” Nikka wrote.
Nikka has never met Jen before and she initially intended to keep it that way because she didn’t know her place. She didn’t want to be a distraction or a cause of chaos. All she did was support Pat in being a father to his first child.
Her insecurity continued on until they got engaged. Nikka was so happy but at the same time bothered about the thought of being a stepmom. She tried to ignore it but she knew that Pat’s son, Jazz is part of the package if she marries Pat. It also meant that she will need to have a relationship with Jazz’s mother.
Nikka was so bothered about it so she prayed silently. Every night she would pray. And then one day, she woke up extremely bothered.
“I remember starting my morning devotion but I just couldn’t concentrate. I had an urge to reach out to Jen (weird right?!) I did not tell ANYONE about this, especially Patrick. I did not want anyone to influence what it was I was feeling. If I were to do this, I wanted to do this according to what God was putting in my heart.”
Nikka also fasted for a week, which she noted that she tried to delay the Holy Spirit’s prompting. After fasting about it, she finally sent Jen a text message. She asked her if they could meet up and talk. Nikka was so nervous and just continued to pray. In less than five minutes after she sent her message, Jen replied.
They met and talked and assured Jen that she will be a good and supportive stepmom to Jazz.
“It was casual. It was peaceful. It was nice. I knew in my heart that this was definitely God’s plan. God took away all my insecurity and replaced it with genuine admiration. He took away jealousy and replaced it with compassion.”
Following their meeting, Nikka and Jen now share a peaceful and genuine friendship. This goes to show that when we allow God to change our hearts, we are rewarded with peace of mind and good relationships with other people.
