5 Dating Tips For Christian Singles

Dating is a part of our life that should not just be taken for granted and even neglected. Dating should be planned ahead, worked on and prayed for. This phase is our preparation for our marriage and a lifetime commitment with our partner.

Dating may be a very joyful and exciting part of our lives, but always remember who your first love is and who should be the center of your relationship, that is Jesus Christ.

1. Be equally yoked.

Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? (Corinthians 6: 14)

As it was said in Corinthians, righteousness could not be a partner with wickedness. That same goes with your relationship. Date someone who has the same faith, belief, and goal as yours. Dating with someone who is an unbeliever is a very dangerous decision and is honestly a disadvantageous move.

2. Examine your personal motives.

“All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD.” (Proverbs 16: 2)

If your motives are just for selfish gains, you can’t date yet. You should first learn what the meaning of love is and learn from Love Himself, God. Your personal motives when dating should always glorify God.

3. Limits must be set mutually.

Maturity can be seen when both you and your partner set boundaries to your relationship mutually. Define what too much physical intimacy is and never give in to passion. After setting that limits, learn to respect the limits and your partner.

4. Be guided by Love and not lust.

Operate in love and not lust. Love is the fruit of the Holy Spirit and it should be shown in our actions and motives. Listen to what the Lord tells you and always be guided by Love.

5. Allow the Holy Spirit to direct and lead you.

Let the Holy Spirit be the leader of your relationship. Listen to His convictions and obey Him at all times. A relationship that is led by the Holy Spirit is surely a secured relationship.

Never date someone without the intention of marriage. Dating is not a game to be played and it should be taken seriously. May these tips help you in your preparation for your dating stage. Remember to always pursue purity, love, and righteousness.
